Thank you for sharing. Our mothers hold a special place in our hearts, and there is a void when they are not able to be a part of our lives. Both my parents took more of your father's approach, so I was lucky in that aspect. But having lost both my parents, father at 25, mother at 34, I miss not being able to share my life with them.

I, in no way intend for my comments to be considered an excuse, but my first thought is- everyone is belittled and put down. The main problem is a lack of empathy that I feel our modern systems simply encourage. Sure, holler at the gay, beat the dog, rape the female- who's gonna stop you? We do not encourage compassion as a society as much as we may pay lip service to it. We time and time again show by our laws and actions that we value money and power more than compassion- Micheal Vick has another dog, the Steubenville girl is still being called a drunk whore, I'll still get screamed at at the Kroger and you will still get called names. There are not only no laws to prevent it, not really, but there is no shame heaped upon the perpetrators.

There are days I like the way the Amish do it. Shunning seems a valuable tool. Imagine if those boys who hollered at you all couldn't buy gas or get fed because word traveled they had harassed two nice members of our community. We may not can teach empathy and compassion but we can damn sure make sure people at least act like they are decent while out in public, if only it was important enough. People don't see long term though, they don't understand how a lack of compassion transfers down and around to other things.

I'm the mom of an LGBT kid and I am deeply saddened that, while loving and supporting my kid, I have almost certainly thought and even expressed views such as your old friend. Definitely time to give my priorities a thorough going-over. THANK YOU for your honesty and for the wake-up call.

Sorry this happened. It is truly disgusting. What can be done? Parents can pull their heads out of their asses and teach their kids respect and love and compassion towards all human beings (except Canadians j/k). I know my kids would get their asses beat if I heard of them doing this. As a matter of fact just recently my daughter has all but wrote off one of her "good" friends because she is starting to notice her act prejudice and hateful to all that are "non" Christian or white. Having talked to this kids mom I know she would be equally hateful towards LGBT as well. I am proud that my daughter on her own decided it was not right and said something and moved on. Their is hope Eddie & Justin. It just lies on the shoulders of us parents raising children in this hateful world.

Attn straight men! Please read this and follow his prescription for more penis love. I personally will never touch an unkempt man zone. It looks like an enormous wild beard and that's just nasty.
What the world needs now is more advice like this.
